The RD01 Rain Detector can be used to automatically monitor the start and end of either rain or snowfall. An integral heater helps to keep the sensor element free of frost and condensation and dries the element when the rain has stopped. The heater is also used to melt snow so that snowfall events can also be recorded.
The external casing protects the element from wind, reducing the risk of damage, but also improving the sensors sensitivity for light rain. Whilst primarily used in road weather applications, when used with a data logger, the sensor can also be used to automatically control windows, shutters, or covers during rain events.
